We aim to keep the information we hold to the minimum we reasonably need. It is written to be clear rather than exhaustive, and it may not describe every circumstance.

We are the controller responsible for personal information handled through this website.

Information we may collect

Depending on how you interact with us, this may include:

• details you give us directly, such as your name, email address, phone number and the content of any message you send us;
• information relating to a donation, such as the amount, the appeal or programme you chose, and whether it is one-off or regular. Card and bank payment details are entered on our payment provider’s secure systems, not ours, and we do not receive or store full card numbers;
• limited technical information that is created automatically when any website is used, such as general log and device information, used to keep the site secure and working.

How and why we use it

We use personal information to respond to enquiries, to acknowledge and administer donations, to keep proper records, to protect the site against misuse, and to meet our legal and accounting obligations. Where the law requires a lawful basis, we rely as appropriate on your consent, on our legitimate interests in running the organisation and communicating with supporters, on the steps needed to process a donation you have asked us to make, and on compliance with legal obligations. We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making.

Payments

Donations are processed by a third-party payment provider (Stripe). When you donate, your payment is handled on their systems under their own terms and privacy notice. Bank transfers are handled by your bank and ours. We receive confirmation of a payment but not your full card details.

Messages and spam protection

Our contact form is delivered by a third-party form and anti-spam service, which processes your message so that it reaches us by email, and uses spam-prevention measures to protect the form from automated abuse. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information through the form.

Who we share it with

We may share information with trusted service providers who help us operate — for example website hosting, payment processing, form delivery and email — and only so far as they need it to provide their service. We may also disclose information where we are required to do so by law, or to establish, exercise or defend legal claims. Some providers may process information outside the United Kingdom; where that happens we expect appropriate safeguards to be in place.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as we reasonably need it for the purposes above, or for as long as we are required to keep it for legal, accounting or record-keeping reasons, after which we take steps to delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

Subject to the conditions in data protection law, you may have the right to ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to portability, and, where we rely on consent, to withdraw that consent at any time. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to help first.

This website aims to use only the cookies and similar technologies that are necessary for it to function and to stay secure.
